The St. Valentine's Day Hair Massacre was launched in 2003, created by Gordon MacDonald and inspired by youngest daughter Kali who was in her third year of chemotherapy treatment. Kali was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in 2000 at the young age of 2.  This horrendous treatment was very hard on her little body, but very necessary for preservation of life.  In these three years, we observed how Kali reacted to 3 rounds of hairloss.  This can be a very devastating experience for a young child, as they cannot reason with the necessity of the treatment.  The results of Kali's hair loss lead to a very weak self esteem.  The treatment itself robbed a little girl of her formative years, drained her strength and energy disabling her from a normal childhood with friends and playtime. Benefits of our cause

A headshave allows us to understand one small component of cancer - hair loss.

Children's hair loss often results in a weakened self esteem. Our aim is to inspire every man, woman and child to recognize the urgency of the decline in health in our youth and make necessary steps in making a difference.

“It is no longer about cancer killing kids….It’s about kids killing cancer!”
Kyrsti MacDonald – age 10 (Kali’s sister)

It is a very special honour for all of us directly involved in the MASSACURE to be a part of something that offers so much in one project. We are delighted that this crazy fundraiser has also generated fun for the kids (and adults), and boosted morale in schools and businesses. We hope it is to be an enjoyable experience for all, and we are constantly striving for ways to keep it unique and exciting.

Please offer us your feedback, we'd love to hear from you! Please help us help the children.

We will continue to take donations through to the next event. Cheques can be made out to the “St. Valentine’s Day Hair Massacure” and sent to Make-A-Wish (16007 - 118 Avenue, Edmonton AB, T5V 1C7). Together we can make a difference. Thank you for your support!
